Thank You to the Farmers!
The Annandale Food Shelf recently received a generous donation of $2,500 from the America’s Farmers Grow Communities and Annandale’s Doug Triplet.
According to the America’s Farmers Grow Communities website (www.americasfarmers.com), the program is an effort seeking to give grants to a variety of rural nonprofits, education efforts and rural initiatives. The program believes local farmers know best which institutions and programs in their communities deserve funding, so they partner with them to direct the grant money. Since 2010, the America’s Farmers programs has awarded over $60 million to nonprofits, schools and ag youth organizations across rural America. From 3D printers and STEM education for small schools, to funding food banks in underserved areas, the America’s Farmers programs help lift up and support rural communities, one grant at a time.
“We owe a big thank you to Annandale farmer Doug Triplet who entered the America’s Farmers Grow Communities' lottery for Wright County and won,” Jean Skomoroh of the Annandale Food Shelf. “This is the second time Doug has won this lottery and donated it to the Food Shelf."
The Annandale Food Shelf has provided 6,649 individuals with 262,183 pounds of food and household necessities already in 2021. According to Skomoroh, there will be much food distributed before the year is out.
“This $2,500 will go a long way in helping many families in the Annandale and Maple Lake area,” Skomoroh said. “What could be more appropriate than a farmer giving money for people who need food”.
